Memories of gawping at Torsion Hikers in my local Olympus Sports and rushing back to watch beautiful Swedish VJs introducing Die Toten Hosen videos in heavily broken English are brought back with a collaboration between pop cultural heavy-hitters adidas and MTV. But rather than using their collective appeal to shift units, they're using it to raise money for MTV's own Staying Alive Foundation which provides information for young people about HIV and AIDS. And while a Superstar is an obvious choice, it's a safe bet for a one-off that's due to be auctioned by MTV on December 1st 2006.

Of course, critically breaking down the shoe panel-by-panel somewhat negates the point of the project but it's a remarkably audacious product, from the interesting laces to the pink outsole and detailing that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the seminal music channel. As far as contemporary examples of iconic design go, it doesn't get much stronger than the shell toe and the oversized 'M' logo...
